Our client Doug S. says, "I’ve been working on cars and hot rods my whole life. I sold my street/strip (10 second 408 SBC Vega) car about 12 years ago to enjoy more time and to get my girls into dirt bike riding. I told my wife Cyndi that once the girls move out and on their own, I would like to build another car. With her blessing we started to look. 1st it was a truck then down to a Datsun 240z. But after looking at what it would take to rebuild a 40+ year old car I took a chance and pitched the Factory Five Daytona Coupe. Kind of looks like a Datsun Z and if built with new parts I would not have to use any donor parts.
Order was placed on 4-26-2019 and the car showed up on July 2 2019.
Drive train was ordered from Craft Performance out of Arkansas. Date was 7-22-2019. Due to all kinds of issues we are still waiting for it. Engine is a 351 Windsor stroked to a 408. Dyno should yield around 520 HP and 500 torque. Transmission will be a TKO 600. Rear end is a 8.8 ford with a Moser limited slip. Gear ration is 355.
I really enjoy the history of the Daytona Coupe and how Mr. Shelby took on the world and won the FIA championship in 1965 for the GT Class. Could have build a roadster from Factory Five but really wanted to be out of the elements since we live in Central TX. Coupe was the oblivious choice.
Trying to stay more original than a modern look (other than AC and Power Steering) the car will be painted a light blue with white stripes. It will include the white meatballs with numbers and all of the correct MFG/logos, making it a replica looking car from 1965 race at Sebring.
My plan for the car is to enjoy it. Drive it on weekends and attend car shows. To only trailer for far way shows. I plan on letting people see it and even sit in it whenever possible. You don’t see too many Daytona Coups around and if you do you almost never get to sit in one.
I have to pay thanks to my Dad for teaching me everything about cars. The #33 will be going on the car to pay tribute to him. It was the year he was born."
We are honored to be a part of this build. As per the client's request we will complete all body work required and refinish the Daytona in a light blue with white stripes. Stay tuned for a stunning transformation!
